- Cream butter and shortening; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Combine flour and baking powder, then add to the creamed mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix just until blended after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla.
- Pour batter equally into two greased and floured loaf pans.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for an hour or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from pans and let cool on a rack.
