Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and shortening; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Combine flour and baking powder, then add to the creamed mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix just until blended after each addition.
  4. Stir in vanilla.
  5. Pour batter equally into two greased and floured loaf pans.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for an hour or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from pans and let cool on a rack.
