Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup maple syrup
  • 4 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cook apple slices in maple syrup over low heat until tender. Cool.
  2. Sift flour, salt, baking powder, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, and cinnamon.
  3. Combine melted butter with water.
  4. Stir in dry ingredients and apple mixture.
  5. Mix well, then add beaten egg. Stir lightly to blend.
  6. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 11-inch pan.
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30 minutes or until done.
