Joan's Mostaccioli offers a hearty, flavorful Italian-style meat sauce with rich tomato and herb flavors, perfect for family dinners and gatherings that enjoy comforting pasta dishes.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground round or ground sirloin
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. basil
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 2 tsp. parsley
  • 2 (28 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 2 (12 oz.) cans tomato paste
  • 2 cans water
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 3 Tbsp. olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large, heavy stock pan, heat olive oil and brown the ground meat.
  2. Drain off excess fat from the meat.
  3. Add all remaining ingredients and bring the mixture to a boil slowly.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for at least 1 1/2 hours.
  5. It tastes even better the day after and freezes well.
  6. Keep in the fridge for at least one week.
  7. Cook mostaccioli as directed on the box before serving.
