Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 stiffly beaten egg whites

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy.
  2. Add the egg yolks, milk, and vanilla, and beat well.
  3. Stir in the melted chocolate until smooth.
  4. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  6. Fold in the chopped nuts.
  7. Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
  8. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 9 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
  9. Bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
