Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. caramels (about 40)
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk, divided
  • 1 deep dark chocolate cake mix
  • 1 1/2 sticks (3/4 cup) butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 (6 oz.) package chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Melt the caramels with 1/3 cup of evaporated milk until smooth.
  2. Keep the caramel mixture warm.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, 1/3 cup of evaporated milk, and melted butter; mix well.
  4. Form the mixture into a ball and split it in half.
  5. Press one half into a greased and lightly floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven, spread melted caramel over the baked layer, then top with chocolate chips and the remaining cake mixture.
  8. Bake again as needed until fully cooked and bubbly.
