Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 3 1/2 cups tomatoes
  • 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • spaghetti sauce mix (1 or 2 envelopes)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 8 oz lasagne or wide noodles
  • 6 to 8 oz thin sliced mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup cream-style cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef slowly in a skillet.
  2. Spoon off excess fat from the cooked meat.
  3. Add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce mix, and minced garlic; cover and simmer for 40 minutes, stirring occasionally. Salt to taste.
  4. Cook lasagne noodles in boiling salted water until tender; drain.
  5. Rinse the cooked noodles in cold water to stop the cooking process.
  6. Place half of the noodles in an 11 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 1 1/2-inch baking dish.
  7. Cover with a third of the sauce.
  8. Add half of the sliced mozzarella cheese and half of the cottage cheese.
  9. Repeat the layers: noodles, sauce, mozzarella, cottage cheese, and then top with remaining noodles and sauce.
  10. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top layer.
  11. Bake in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
  12. Let stand for 15 minutes before cutting into squares.
