- Cook over medium heat; stir constantly until thickened.
- Remove from heat.

- Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Gradually add 1/2 cup sugar to the egg whites and continue beating.
- Fold the beaten egg whites into the lemon mixture gently.
- Spoon the filling into the baked pie shell.
- Chill the pie for 2 hours before serving.
