Ingredients

  • walnuts
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2/3 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare a loaf pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine granulated sugar, shortening, eggs, all-purpose flour, baking powder, milk, and chopped walnuts; mix until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, approximately 50 minutes.
  5. While the bread is baking, prepare the lemon icing by stirring together powdered sugar and 4 to 5 teaspoons lemon juice until smooth, thick, but pourable.
  6. Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool slightly.
  7. Drizzle the lemon icing over the warm bread before serving.
