Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup oleo
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons sweet milk
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 scant teaspoons baking soda
  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 2/3 cup orange juice
  • 1 1/2 pounds pecans
  • 1 pound raisins
  • 1 pound candied cherries
  • 1/2 pound candied pineapple

Instructions

  1. Combine the first 10 ingredients and make a batter as for cake.
  2. Add pecans, raisins, cherries, and pineapple to the batter.
  3. Stir until the fruit and nuts are well coated.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto a greased cookie sheet.
  5. Bake in a slow oven at 300°F (150°C) for about 30 minutes.
  6. Allow the cookies to cool.
  7. Store in an airtight container.
  8. For better flavor, keep the cookies for 2 to 3 weeks before serving.
