Ingredients

  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1 1/2 c. raisins, chopped
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 c. chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar, shortening and eggs.
  2. Add soda, salt and molasses, then add raisins and nuts.
  3. Stir in flour.
  4. Press out onto cookie sheets.
  5. With hands, make a big flat sheet just up to edge of cookie sheet.
  6. Sprinkle with sugar.
  7. Bake at 350° for approximately 8 to 10 minutes.
  8. Cut into bars.
  9. If hard, they should soften in a couple days.
  10. Shouldn't be soft when taken from oven.
