- Beat egg yolks at high speed with a mixer for 4 minutes. Set aside.
- Beat butter at medium speed until creamy.
- Gradually add sugar; beat well.
- Add egg yolks and beat well.
- Combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add to butter mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
- Stir in lemon juice, lemon rind, and vanilla.
- Spoon batter into 3 greased and floured 8-inch cake pans.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 18 to 20 minutes, or until tests done.
- Cool in pans on wire racks for 10 minutes; remove from pans and cool completely.
- Frost top, sides, and between layers with Lemon Frosting.
