Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup jam
  • 1 cup black walnuts
  • 1 cup apples, chopped
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together sugar and butter.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Stir in buttermilk and baking soda until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix flour with apples, black walnuts, and raisins to coat them evenly.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  7. Divide the batter into 4 greased or parchment-lined cake pans.
  8. Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes per layer, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow cakes to cool before stacking and frosting as desired.
