Ingredients

  • 1 mango (about 1 1/2 lb.), peeled, pitted and chopped coarse
  • 1 papaya, peeled, seeded and chopped coarse
  • 2 c. plain yogurt
  • 2 Tbsp. fresh lime juice
  • 4 lime slices for garnish
  • 3 Tbsp. honey

Instructions

  1. In a blender, blend the mango, the papaya, the yogurt, the lime juice, the honey, the almond extract, and 1 cup of ice in batches until the mixture is smooth.
  2. Blend in an additional 1/2 cup of ice if desired to thin the smoothie to the desired consistency.
  3. Divide the mixture between 4 large chilled glasses and decorate each with a lime slice.

Tips & Substitutions

For a creamier texture, use full-fat yogurt or consider adding a banana for extra creaminess. If you prefer a sweeter smoothie, adjust the honey to taste. You can substitute the mango and papaya with other tropical fruits like pineapple or kiwi to mix up the flavors. For a vegan option, use coconut yogurt instead of plain yogurt.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this refreshing smoothie as a perfect breakfast or a light snack. It pairs beautifully with a light salad or can be enjoyed alongside a slice of Slovakian Nut Candy for a sweet treat. Garnish with extra lime slices or mint leaves for added flair and freshness.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover smoothie in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. If the smoothie thickens, simply stir in a bit of water or additional yogurt to restore its consistency. Freezing leftovers in ice cube trays is also an option; blend the frozen cubes later for a quick treat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this smoothie ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the smoothie in advance and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. However, for the best texture and flavor, it's recommended to consume it fresh. If you do prepare it ahead, give it a good stir before serving.

What can I substitute for honey?

If you want to avoid honey, you can use maple syrup or agave nectar as a substitute. For a sugar-free option, consider using a sugar substitute like stevia or erythritol, adjusting the amount to taste as they are often sweeter than honey.

Can I add other fruits to this smoothie?

Absolutely! This smoothie is versatile. You can add fruits like banana, pineapple, or even spinach for added nutrients. Just keep in mind that adding more fruits may change the flavor profile slightly, so feel free to experiment!
