- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Combine brown sugar, sour cream, egg, and maple flavor in a medium bowl; set aside.
- In a large bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, allspice, and salt.
- Using a pastry blender or two knives, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Make a well in the center of the flour mixture; stir in sour cream mixture until moistened.
- Turn dough out onto a floured surface.
- Gently knead the dough by folding and pressing for 10 to 12 strokes or until nearly smooth.
- Pat dough to 1-inch (2.5 cm) thickness.
- Using a floured 2-inch (5 cm) biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits.
- Place biscuits 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake for 13 to 15 minutes or until bottoms are brown and sides are firm.
- Remove from the oven and transfer biscuits from the baking sheet.
