Ingredients

  • 8 tart sweet baking apples, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch wedges
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter or oleo, cut into bits
  • 3 teaspoons wheat germ
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  3. Toss peeled and cut apples with maple syrup and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine chopped walnuts, all-purpose flour, dark brown sugar, wheat germ, rolled oats, and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.
  5. Cut in butter or oleo until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and apples are tender.
  8. Serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
