Tips & Substitutions

For added flavor, consider using a mixture of beef and pork or substituting chicken with turkey for a leaner option. If you want a spicier dish, add more hot sauce or diced jalapeños to the marinade. Fresh herbs like cilantro can enhance the taste. To save time, you can use pre-cooked meats or leftover grilled meats. This dish can also be made as a filling for Chimichangas With Beef And Beans.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Bahita's with a side of refried beans or Spanish rice for a complete meal. Top with your choice of garnishes like shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, or salsa for extra freshness. These also pair beautifully with Trash Bag Taco Salad for a fun twist. A cold beverage, like a Mexican lager or horchata, complements the flavors perfectly.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the wrapped tortillas in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes or until heated through. You can also microwave them for 1-2 minutes, but they may lose some crispness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

Yes, you can marinate the meat a day in advance to enhance the flavors. Cook the meat and vegetables just before serving to ensure everything is fresh and warm. You can also prepare the filling and store it separately, then assemble and bake just before serving.

What can I use instead of flour tortillas?

If you're looking for a gluten-free option, you can use corn tortillas or lettuce wraps. Corn tortillas are traditional and will add an authentic flavor. Lettuce wraps provide a low-carb alternative and are perfect if you're watching your carbohydrate intake.

How do I adjust the spiciness of the dish?

To adjust the spiciness, you can increase or decrease the amount of hot sauce in the marinade. Alternatively, add fresh jalapeños or other hot peppers when cooking the onions and green peppers. For a milder flavor, reduce the hot sauce or use a mild salsa as a topping.
