Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. stew meat
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 16 oz. canned stewed tomatoes, chopped
  • 8 oz. canned tomatoes and green chilies
  • 4 oz. canned green chilies, chopped
  • 6 to 8 medium potatoes, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Cut the stew meat into bite-sized pieces and brown them with chopped onion in a 4 1/2-quart pot.
  2. Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder to the meat and onion mixture.
  3. Add chopped canned stewed tomatoes, canned tomatoes and green chilies, chopped green chilies, and potatoes to the pot.
  4. Fill the pot with water and bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
  6. When the stew begins to thicken, it is ready to serve.
  7. Serve with flour tortillas.
