Ingredients

  • 5 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon soda

Instructions

  1. Sift together the self-rising flour, sugar, and soda.
  2. Add shortening and blend until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to the flour mixture.
  4. Pour in buttermilk and mix well until a soft dough forms.
  5. Store the dough in the refrigerator until ready to bake.
  6. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a greased baking pan.
  8. Bake until biscuits are golden brown, about 15 minutes.
