Ingredients

  • pastry for double-crust 9-inch pie
  • 3 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 7 1/4 tsp. Equal Measure or 24 packets Equal sweetener
  • 3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 8 cups sliced, cored and peeled Granny Smith or other baking apples

Instructions

  1. Roll half of the pastry on a floured surface into a circle 1 inch larger than the inverted 9-inch pie pan. Ease the pastry into the pan.
  2. Combine cornstarch, Equal Measure sweetener, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt; sprinkle over sliced apples in a large bowl and toss to coat.
  3. Arrange the apple mixture in the prepared pie crust.
  4. Roll the remaining pastry into a circle large enough to fit the top of the pie.
  5. Cut hearts in the pastry with cutters.
  6. Place the pastry with hearts on top of the filled pie, seal the edges, trim, and flute.
  7. Press pastry hearts onto the top as decoration.
  8. Bake in a preheated 425°F oven until the pastry is golden and apples are tender, about 40 to 50 minutes.
  9. Cool the pie on a wire rack before serving.
