Ingredients

  • white angel food cake
  • 1/2 lb. butter or margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted confectioners sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 squares baking chocolate
  • 6 tablespoons double strength coffee
  • 2 stiffly beaten egg whites
  • 1/2 pint whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Slice the angel food cake into 4 or 5 layers.
  2. Cream the butter until smooth.
  3. Gradually add sifted confectioners sugar to the creamed butter.
  4. Add a pinch of salt, vanilla, and egg yolks; beat for 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Melt the baking chocolate with the double-strength coffee and add to the mixture.
  6. Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
  7. Spread the filling between the cake layers and chill the assembled cake overnight.
  8. Frost the chilled cake with whipped cream before serving.
