Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 ounce baking chocolate

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  2. Cream shortening with sugar until fluffy.
  3. Beat eggs thoroughly and add sifted dry ingredients and milk alternately, beating well.
  4. Add vanilla extract to the batter.
  5. Divide batter into two halves.
  6. Melt chocolate and add with 2 tablespoons of milk to one half; blend well.
  7. Drop batter by tablespoons into a greased pan, alternating white and chocolate batter to create a marbled effect.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50 to 60 minutes.
