Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons grated orange rind
  • 2/3 cup orange juice
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, sift flour with sugar, baking powder, allspice, salt, and baking soda.
  2. Thoroughly beat the egg and combine it with grated orange rind, orange juice, and melted butter.
  3. Add the liquid mixture to the flour mixture all at once.
  4. Stir only until well blended.
  5. Stir in chopped nuts.
  6. Pour the batter into a well-greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
  7. Bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for about 50 minutes.
  8. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from the pan.
  9. Cool completely before slicing.
