Ingredients

  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 4 teaspoons soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Melt and cool the shortening.
  2. Mix together all ingredients, including the molasses, sugar, sour milk, egg, soda, salt, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon.
  3. Add 5 cups of flour to the mixture and blend together until well combined.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and sprinkle with sugar.
  5. Cut out cookies and bake in an oven preheated to 425°F for 8 to 10 minutes.
