Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 6 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup broken California walnuts

Instructions

  1. Mix shortening, cocoa, and margarine together over very low heat, stirring constantly; cool.
  2. Beat eggs until light; stir in sugar, then chocolate mixture and vanilla.
  3. Add sifted dry ingredients, mixing well.
  4. Add nuts.
  5. Bake in greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes; cool.
  6. Frost with Chocolate Butter Frosting.
  7. Cut in squares.
