Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. hot water
  • 1/2 c. sour milk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  2. Add two beaten egg yolks and hot water, mixing well.
  3. Stir the sour milk with baking soda until dissolved.
  4. Combine the wet mixture with the dry ingredients: flour, salt, cocoa, and vanilla.
  5. Whisk the two egg whites until stiff peaks form and fold gently into the batter.
  6. Pour batter into a greased pan and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool and glaze with brown sugar icing.
