Ingredients

  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon lemon extract

Instructions

  1. Cream together the margarine, shortening, and sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder three times.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternately with sour cream and buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  5. Stir in vanilla and lemon extract until well combined.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased and floured tube pan.
  7. Bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for about 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
