Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground deer or elk
  • 4 oz. tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 1/2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce

Instructions

  1. Combine ground meat, tomato sauce, bread crumbs, chopped onion, chopped bell pepper, salt, pepper, minced garlic, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl.
  2. Pat this mixture into the bottom and sides of a greased 9-inch pie pan to form the crust.
  3. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil and cook rice until half-cooked, about 10 minutes.
  4. Mix cooked rice, the remaining tomato sauce (from one can), and 1/4 cup grated cheese. Place this mixture into the meat shell.
  5. Cover the pie with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and pour off excess juices.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining cheese and 1/2 can of tomato sauce on top, then bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes.
