- Peel potatoes and slice very thin.
- Dice onion.
- Cut butter into approximately 16 pats.
- Divide potatoes into fourths, along with onions.
- Place 1 layer of potatoes and onions into a 9 x 12-inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle with 1/4 of the grated Parmesan cheese and place 4 pats of butter on top.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used, aiming for 4 layers.
- Bake in a 375°F oven for 1 hour. Serve hot.
