Ingredients

  • Mazola no-stick spray
  • 1 1/4 cups plain flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup Karo syrup
  • confectioners sugar

Instructions

  1. Spray a 9-inch square baking pan with Mazola no-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine plain flour, sugar, unsweetened cocoa, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  4. Add water and Karo syrup to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  5. Gently fold in the beaten egg whites into the batter.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool before dusting with confectioners sugar and serving.
