Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. bacon
  • 1 lb. Polish sausage
  • 1 large onion
  • 15 oz. can kidney beans
  • 15 oz. can butter beans
  • 15 oz. can lima beans
  • 15 oz. can homestyle baked beans
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 3 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 or 2 cloves garlic
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Start with a skillet and brown the bacon; drain and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, brown the Polish sausage and set aside.
  3. Saute the chopped onion in the remaining bacon fat.
  4. Open the kidney beans, butter beans, and lima beans; drain in a colander.
  5. Combine the beans, cooked bacon and sausage, ketchup, red wine, brown sugar, dry mustard, garlic, and black pepper in a mixing bowl.
  6. Mix all ingredients thoroughly, then transfer to a baking dish.
  7. Bake uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  8. Serve hot or at room temperature. The dish tastes even better the next day.
