Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2/3 cup oil
  • 2 cups cold water

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, sugar, cocoa, salt, and baking soda into a 9 x 13-inch pan.
  2. Make three wells in the flour mixture.
  3. Pour vinegar into one well, vanilla into the second, and oil into the third well.
  4. Pour 2 cups cold water over this mixture.
  5. Mix with a portable mixer right in the pan.
  6. Be sure to scrape sides and bottom while mixing.
  7. Bake about 45 minutes at 350°F.
