Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 2 tablespoons grated orange rind
  • 2 tablespoons grated lemon rind
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup ground walnuts
  • 3/4 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Cream butter with sugar, then add the egg yolks and grated rinds; beat until light and fluffy.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, and baking soda together.
  3. Stir 2 tablespoons of this dry mixture into the ground walnuts.
  4. Fold the nuts, dry ingredients, and sour cream into the egg yolk mixture.
  5. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold them in lightly.
  6. Butter and flour a spring-form cake pan.
  7. Turn the batter into the prepared pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour, or until the cake tests done.
  8. Remove from the oven and let stand for 5 minutes.
  9. Remove the spring sides of the pan.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
