Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups walnut halves
  • 1 cup blanched almonds
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 stiffly beaten egg whites
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup flour

Instructions

  1. Toast walnut halves and almonds with salt in a 15 x 10 x 1-inch or 13 x 9-inch pan in a 325°F oven for 10 to 15 minutes until light brown. Remove from pan.
  2. Melt butter in the pan.
  3. Combine egg whites with sugar, vanilla, and flour until well mixed.
  4. Fold in the toasted nuts.
  5. Spread the mixture in a buttered pan.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
  7. Stir occasionally to break apart until brown.
  8. After baking, sprinkle with cinnamon.
  9. Serve as cookies or candy.
