Ingredients

  • pastry for 9-inch single crust pie
  • 1 1/2 cups cut up dates
  • 1 1/2 cups cream
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons fine dry bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3/4 cup shredded coconut

Instructions

  1. Line a 9-inch pie pan with pastry.
  2. Sprinkle sliced dates into the pastry-lined pie pan.
  3. Combine cream, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, salt, bread crumbs, and vanilla, then beat with a rotary beater until well mixed.
  4. Pour the mixture over the dates in the pie shell.
  5. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15 minutes.
  6. Reduce oven temperature to 300°F (150°C) and bake for an additional 30 minutes.
  7. During the last 10 minutes of baking, sprinkle shredded coconut over the pie.
