Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/3 c. sorghum molasses
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening with molasses.
  2. Add beaten egg.
  3. Mix all dry ingredients and add to creamy mixture.
  4. Add buttermilk and vanilla. Beat to a stiff dough.
  5. Roll out to thickness of pie dough.
  6. Cut out with a scalloped pie pan.
  7. Place rounds of dough on a cookie sheet.
  8. Bake at 375° for 12 to 15 minutes.
  9. Put together with sweetened applesauce.
