Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups plus 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • dash of nutmeg
  • 1 1/4 cups drained canned apples
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons powdered milk

Instructions

  1. Mix sugars and shortening for 3 to 5 minutes on low speed of mixer.
  2. Add water and eggs and mix well.
  3. Combine dry ingredients and add to the previous mixture gradually, mixing well.
  4. Fold in drained canned apples.
  5. Pour batter into a greased oblong pan.
  6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 to 30 minutes.
