Ingredients

  • 6 medium sweet potatoes
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Peel and slice sweet potatoes into 1 1/2-inch thick slices. Cook and drain.
  2. Arrange the cooked sweet potato slices in a buttered 1 1/2-quart baking dish.
  3. Combine brown sugar, butter, water, salt, cloves, and nutmeg. Bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes to make the glaze.
  4. Pour the hot glaze over the arranged sweet potatoes.
  5. Bake for 50 minutes, basting occasionally with the glaze.
