Ingredients

  • 1 c. soft shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 3 c. plain flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 1 c. boiling water

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar.
  2. Add eggs and molasses.
  3. Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and ginger.
  4. Add dry ingredients to the first mixture.
  5. Add boiling water.
  6. This will be a very thin batter.
  7. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
  8. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes.
  9. Good with whipped cream or lemon sauce.
