Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups vinegar
  • 1/2 cup shelled peanuts
  • butter

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar and vinegar in a 3-quart saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat until it reaches the soft crack stage (265°F) when dropped in cool water.
  3. Pour the hot mixture into well buttered plates.
  4. Add peanuts, if desired.
  5. When the candy is cool enough to handle, with well buttered hands, pull until it begins to get firm and turns white.
  6. Make a rope and cut or break into 3 to 4-inch pieces. Wrap each piece in wax paper.
