Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 2 c. milk, scalded
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 6 c. all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle dry yeast into the warm water and let stand a few minutes, then stir until dissolved.
  2. Pour hot milk over butter, sugar, and salt, then cool to lukewarm.
  3. Add the dissolved yeast and 3 cups of flour to the milk mixture and beat well.
  4. Add the remaining flour and mix well.
  5. Turn out onto a floured board and knead until smooth and satiny.
  6. Place into a greased bowl, turn once to coat, then cover with plastic wrap and let rise until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours.
  7. Punch down the dough and shape as desired for baking.
