Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 1/2 cup soft butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Sift the flour, salt, soda, cinnamon, and ginger into a large bowl.
  2. Cream the soft butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Add sugar to the butter, beating well.
  4. Add eggs and buttermilk to the creamed mixture.
  5. Stir in the molasses.
  6. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well.
  7. Pour the batter into a buttered pan.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 minutes, or until done.
