  • 4 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt

  2. In a small bowl, stir 2 packages yeast with sugar. Add a small amount of warm milk mixture and stir.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture back into the milk mixture and mix well.
  4. Knead on a floured surface, adding enough flour to make workable dough.
  5. Roll the dough very thin.
  6. Spread the dough with a mixture of butter, cinnamon, and 3/4 cup sugar.
  7. Roll and slice into 36 pieces.
  8. Place the slices in a greased pan.
  9. Let rise for 45 minutes.
  10. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 10 to 12 minutes.
  11. Remove from the pan while hot and drizzle with glaze.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using unsalted butter and adding a touch of vanilla extract to the dough. If you don't have buttermilk, you can substitute it with milk mixed with a tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice. Ensure the yeast is fresh for the best rise, and let the dough rest longer if needed for a fluffier texture.

Serving Suggestions

These cinnamon rolls are delightful when served warm with a drizzle of glaze. Pair them with a hot cup of coffee or tea for a comforting breakfast or snack. For an extra treat, serve alongside a rich peanut butter bread or honey-sesame cookies for a sweet brunch spread.

Storage & Reheating

To store leftover cinnamon rolls, place them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 2 months. To reheat, simply place them in a microwave for about 10-15 seconds or warm in a 350°F (175°C) oven until heated through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make the dough ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the dough and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours before rolling it out. Just make sure to let it come to room temperature before shaping and baking to ensure proper rise.

What can I use if I don't have cinnamon?

If you don't have cinnamon, you can use other spices like nutmeg or cardamom for a different flavor profile. A mix of brown sugar and nutmeg can also create a delicious twist on traditional cinnamon rolls.

How do I know when the rolls are done baking?

The rolls are done when they are golden brown on top and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. You can also check with a toothpick; it should come out clean when inserted into the center of a roll.
