Onions Parmesan is a savory baked dish featuring caramelized onions, melted mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses, paired with toasted Italian bread—perfect for comforting family dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups onion slices
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 8 Italian bread slices

Instructions

  1. Saute onion slices in 2 tablespoons of margarine.
  2. Spoon the onion mixture into an 11 3/4 x 7 1/2-inch baking dish.
  3. Top with 1 1/2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese and 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese.
  4. Combine the cream of mushroom soup and milk.
  5. Pour the soup mixture over the cheese layer.
  6. Spread the remaining margarine on one side of each bread slice and sprinkle with the remaining Parmesan cheese.
  7. Place the bread slices, overlapping along each long side of the dish, leaving the center open.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
  9. To serve, place a bread slice on a plate and cover with the onion mixture.
