Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 3 cups corn flakes
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange rind

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  2. Put soft shortening into a bowl.
  3. Add sugar gradually, mixing well until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and beat hard.
  5. Stir in about half of the flour mixture.
  6. Stir in evaporated milk.
  7. Add the remaining flour and mix well.
  8. Fold in corn flakes, chopped nuts, and grated orange rind.
  9. Drop from teaspoon onto greased baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  10. Bake on oven rack slightly above center at 325°F for 15 minutes or until light brown.
  11. Watch closely while baking.
  12. Remove from oven and transfer cookies from baking sheet immediately.
