Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup lard or oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups sweet milk
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 package dates
  • 2 cups nuts
  • 1 small jar cherries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine sugar, lard or oil, eggs, sweet milk, and soda in a mixing bowl and beat well.
  3. Stir in flour, chopped dates, nuts, and cherries until evenly mixed.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes or until the loaf is browned and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before removing from the pan and serving.
