Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 pound chopped orange slices
  • 1 small can Angel Flake coconut
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 pound chopped dates
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar until smooth.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  3. Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to the creamed mixture.
  4. Place flour in a large bowl.
  5. Add chopped dates, orange slices, nuts, and coconut to the flour and mix well.
  6. Combine the dry ingredients with the creamed mixture and mix to form a very stiff dough.
  7. Divide the dough evenly into three greased and floured 9-inch pans.
  8. Bake at 250°F (120°C) for 2 1/2 to 3 hours until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
