- Cream the shortening with sugar; add eggs, pumpkin and water. Sift together next 6 ingredients and add to pumpkin mixture. Remove seeds from orange.
- Using blender or grinder, grind orange, including peel; add to pumpkin batter.
- Stir in nuts and raisins or dates.
- Pour into two well-greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pans or seven 1-pound cans and bake in a 350° oven for 1 hour.
- Makes 2 large or 7 small loaves.
