Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 package yeast
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup sweet milk

Instructions

  1. Place yeast in warm water; set aside.
  2. Sift together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients.
  4. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Add buttermilk and sweet milk; stir until well blended.
  6. Pour the dough onto floured wax paper.
  7. Roll out the dough; cut out biscuits with a cutter.
  8. Place thin biscuits in a greased pan.
  9. Place wax paper between layers of biscuits.
  10. Cover and place in refrigerator overnight.
  11. Bake at 450°F for 10 minutes until golden.
  12. Makes about 24 biscuits.
