Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 cups diced, pared apples
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup soft margarine

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, sift or mix well the flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg.
  3. Add the diced apples, chopped walnuts (if using), 1/2 cup margarine or butter, and eggs to the dry ingredients.
  4. Mix until well combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
