Ingredients

  • 6 medium onions, sliced
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 8 tablespoons butter or margarine, divided
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Saute onions and celery until tender in 3 tablespoons of butter; drain and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the remaining butter; stir in flour, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  3. Gradually stir in milk and bring to a boil.
  4. Cook for 2 minutes until thickened, stirring constantly.
  5. Pour the sauce over the vegetables and toss to coat.
  6. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and chopped pecans before serving.
